DFG Priority Program 1573
This first ISM-SPP school will take place from October 1 to October 5, 2012 in the
Kardinal-Doepfner-Haus in Freising near Munich.
The idea of the school is:
(i) giving a summary of our current view of the ISM based on observations, laboratory experiments and simulations
(ii) to bring together the students of the ISM-SPP community for discussion, exchange of ideas and expertise, networking
(iii) give students the opportunity to improve their presentation skills
To this end, the school will be divided into three parts:
(i) lectures by experts:
| Program | |||
| Basic physics and the dynamics of the turbulent, multi-phase ISM | Andreas Burkert | ||
| Observations of the ISM and overview over observing techniques | Fabian Walter | ||
| Laboratory experiments I: Dust and PAHs (condensation, processing, spectral characteristics) | Cornelia Jaeger | ||
| Laboratory experiments II: Spectroscopy of interstellar molecules | Sandra Brünken | ||
| Star formation and stellar feedback | Ralf Klessen | ||
| Chemistry of the ISM | Simon Glover | ||
| Radiative transfer I: Continuum and Polarization | Sebastian Wolf | ||
| Radiative transfer II: Gas Line Transfer | Christian Brinch | ||
| ISM in other galaxies | Frank Bigiel | ||
| Physics and Chemistry of Cosmic Dust | Thomas Henning | ||
| SOFIA's potential for ISM studies | Hans Zinnecker | ||
(ii) short presentations by the students of their thesis projects and informal get-togethers for networking
(iii) a soft skill seminar on "Scientific Presenting" by K. Meyer-Ross
Everybody is welcome to apply, but priority will be given to ISM-SPP funded students. Please send an email to schartmann@mpe.mpg.de until July 31, 2012. Please indicate on which project you are working (including the name of the PI and a short abstract) and whether you are funded by the ISM-SPP. There will be no registration fee. All participants will be located in the monastery (we will make bookings for you), which currently costs 80.50 EUR per day (overnight stay plus full board). In case you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. We will provide you with more information via e-mail and on this webpage soon.
